Every year without fail, there are going to be times when it’s simply too nice outside to sit in the house. There are so many family activities to do that you’ll struggle to fit them all in during the summer! When the kids are off school, things get even more difficult, as you’ll have to think up a lot of events to keep them from getting bored or restless. But fear not, here are our top 10 family activities for the summer.
Picnic in a Park
It’s likely you won’t be the only family to think of having a picnic in the park this summer, so get there early to grab the best spot! And when we say picnic, we’re talking the whole nine yards: flannelette blanket, wicker basket, as well as sandwiches, lemonade, watermelon, and chocolate brownies for dessert. Don’t forget some park games to keep the kids entertained, such as a soccer ball, Nerf football, and Frisbee.
Museum
The past can really come alive in museums. No longer just artifact after artifact in glass boxes, many science, natural history, or aviation museums have interactive and highly enjoyable displays that do their best to make learning fun. And we haven’t even mentioned dinosaurs yet! If the Jurassic World movie is any proof, then people can’t get enough of these 65-million-year-old creatures, and natural history museums often have complete dinosaur skeletons that will amaze and fascinate in equal measure.
Camping
Camping? You mean cramming everything but the kitchen sink into a car, driving all the way to the campsite, and taking hours to pitch a family-sized tent that looks like a gentle wind might collapse it? This might be the view held by many, but this is not totally true. A camping holiday can also mean a luxurious and relaxing one, with no setting up of tents! A place to unwind and connect with nature, wandering around a forest trail is an activity everyone can enjoy. Parents can get away from the hustle and bustle of a town or city, and kids will love the possibilities for imagination and play. You can also bring along some bicycles and casually ride around the forest, stopping along the way to appreciate the natural landscape in all its glory.
3D movie
As sure as sugar, you know that summer doesn’t just mean sun and no school, it also means blockbuster movies! For the whole family, we’ve already had Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, Finding Dory, The BFG, and The Secret Life of Pets this year, but there will be plenty more to pick from in the coming months. 3D adds an extra layer of fun to the movie itself, and both kids and adults alike will find some joy in summer blockbusters.
Musical
Lastly, musicals are a great treat and offer something very different from a movie. With live actors on stage, a musical can be more immersive and interactive than something on a screen. Kids (and maybe adults too) will love to sing along to many Disney adaptations for the stage, such as Aladdin, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid.
